Born in Puerto Rico, Dr. Vega Vega knew that she wanted to become a surgeon by age 14. The idea of treating, and possibly curing a disease by performing surgery intrigued her from a very young age. After completing high school in her hometown of Cayey, she attended the University of Puerto Rico, where she graduated with honors, with a major in Biology.
Dr. Vega Vega attended the UCC Medical School where she became member of the Alpha-Omega-Alpha Honor Medical Society. During medical school, she participated in surgical rotations at the University of South Florida at Tampa General Hospital (Tampa, Florida) and Emory University at Grady Memorial Hospital (Atlanta, Georgia).
Dr. Vega Vega completed her General Surgery residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. During residency, she gained experience in various disciplines within general surgery. From treating patients that had undergone severe trauma at Kings County Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center) in Brooklyn, NY to treating cancer, with surgical rotations at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, NY.
It was during surgery residency that Dr. Vega Vega developed a special interest in Breast Surgery. She finds it highly rewarding to treat women who are undergoing breast cancer. She treats breast cancer, as well as benign or non-cancerous breast conditions.
Dr. Vega Vega also has a special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery, since it may provide patients a faster recovery from surgery and excellent cosmetic results. She performs laparoscopic repair of hernias, as well as laparoscopic removal of gallbladder and laparoscopic removal of appendix for acute appendicitis.
Dr. Vega Vega also performs surgery for perianal conditions like hemorrhoids, anal fissures or fistulas; skin lesions, soft tissue masses and chemotherapy port placement.
Dr. Ngan Nguyen is a general surgeon specializing in minimally-invasive surgery. She earned a bachelor’s degree at LSU, where she graduated with honors in Chemistry in 2009. She went on to complete her medical training at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in 2014. It was during this time that she discovered her love for surgery. She remained at LSU in New Orleans as a general surgery resident physician until 2019.
She received additional training in Advanced Gastrointestinal and Minimally-Invasive Surgery during her fellowship through the University of Texas Health System and HCA Houston Northwest Medical Center.
She offers care for a wide scope of general surgical conditions. Her interests include the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease, achalasia, and abdominal wall hernias. She believes in allowing technology to improve everyday life, including the practice of medicine and surgery. She is a native speaker of Viestnamese and English. She lives in Katy, TX with her fiancé and their two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys woodworking and sewing and is always working on a new project.
